My Brighton Highlights!
A weekend in Brighton filled with standout food, from smoky beachfront dining to playful afternoon tea and Laines-side finds. Here’s everything we ate, drank, and the spots already on my list for next time.
Brighton has an effortless mix of seaside charm, buzzing energy and a food scene that makes you wish you had just one more meal slot. From smoky beachfront dinners to playful afternoon teas and Laine-side snacking, this felt like the kind of trip where you’re constantly saying, “we need to try that next time…”
Salt Shed
A birthday weekend deserves a proper meal, and Salt Shed absolutely delivered.
Set in the arches along the beachfront, it’s got that cosy, intimate feel with a smoky, fire-led menu that leans heavily into quality meat and bold flavours. The kind of place that works just as well for a date night as it does a celebratory dinner.

We went for their meat sharer board with a couple of sides, plus their own Salt Shed Cider! This was an epic dinner and we thoroughly enjoyed it all - pastrami steak, grilled chicken and aged bavette steak with mac & cheese and rosemary fries. Read my full review here.
Harbour House – Funfair Afternoon Tea
Brighton and a funfair-themed afternoon tea just make sense—playful, nostalgic and a little bit different from your classic offering.
Set right on the seafront, the atmosphere was lively and full of groups celebrating, catching up and making an occasion of it. The décor leans into that fun, slightly whimsical feel, but still keeps things cosy.

The savouries were more than your average sandwiches with mini fish and chips, British corn dog and pastrami sandwich. Plus the sweet treats arrived on their own Ferris wheel stand! Read my full review here.
Bread + Milk
Tucked away in the Laines, this was one of those casual finds that ends up being a highlight!
We went for their special of the day toasties and they were so good. Think butter chicken, onion bhaji, mango chutney and pickles to cut through the sweetness. It was balanced, flavour-packed and exactly the kind of comfort food you want when you’re wandering and exploring.

The cakes looked incredible (definitely one for next time), and I couldn’t resist a white chocolate matcha alongside. There’s seating inside and out, and on a sunny day it’s the perfect spot to sit and watch the buzz of the Laines—just keep an eye out for the seagulls.
The Black Lion
From the outside, this pub almost feels like a hidden gem—but step inside and you get that instantly cosy, welcoming atmosphere.
There’s a secluded garden tucked away , making it a perfect little escape from the busy streets. I couldn’t resist trying something local and went for a Laine Brew Co. Zest Lager—light, refreshing, with that perfect balance of sweetness and citrusy sharpness for a sunny afternoon (and bonus points for a very cool glass).

My list for next time!
La Choza
A colourful Mexican hotspot in the Laines that immediately caught my eye. The menu looked packed with bold, flavourful dishes and it had that lively, casual energy that makes you want to grab a table and order everything.
Flour Pot Bakery
A viral favourite for a reason. The cakes here are quirky, indulgent and seriously tempting—definitely a place you’ll spot before you even realise you’re looking for it. Be prepared to queue, but it looked well worth it.

The Chilli Pickle
Nearby the Pavilion, this beautiful Indian restaurant smelled incredible as we walked past. The menu blends classic dishes with more original ideas, and they offer set lunches too—this is firmly on my list for next time.
Dishoom Permit Room Brighton
Always a favourite. The Brighton Permit Room brings that signature Dishoom feel with great food, DJs, a rooftop terrace and even rooms to stay in. It’s one of those places you just know won’t let you down—perfect for a future visit.
Shelter Hall
A beachfront food hall that’s ideal if you’re travelling with different tastes, or just can’t decide. There’s a mix of small kitchens offering everything from street food to comfort classics, plus plenty of indoor and outdoor seating right by the sea.
Exploring Brighton
Brighton isn’t just about eating!
A visit to Royal Pavilion is a must—once the seaside pleasure palace of King George IV, its Indian and Chinese-inspired architecture makes it one of the most unique landmarks in the UK.
The Laines are perfect for wandering—full of independent shops, hidden corners and plenty more food stops. We loved:
- Snoopers Paradise – vintage treasure hunting heaven
- Dave's Comics – a must if you love games and comics
- Papersmiths – stationery dreams, I had to have new stationery (although definitely didn't need it!

And for book lovers, Goldsboro Books is dangerous—specialising in first edition, signed and often beautifully sprayed-edge books. I showed real restraint and left with just two.
Brighton is one of those places where every corner feels like it could lead you to your next favourite spot. Whether you’re planning around standout meals or just grazing your way through the Laines, it’s a city that rewards curiosity and a healthy appetite.
We barely scratched the surface, but that just gives us the perfect excuse to come back.
